If students and faculty do not have access to Canvas, the following activities can be accomplished with Microsoft Forms:
Collect digital papers or projects
- Go to https://forms.microsoft.com and login with your IU credentials.
- Create a new Microsoft Form by selecting the “New Form” button.
- Add a title to your form in the text box at the top (this will help you find the submitted files in OneDrive later).
- Select the “Quick start with” link.
- Next choose “Upload File” and specify number of files allowed and single file size limit.
- Suggested recommended settings for the form on the “Settings” tab at the top:
- Select “Only people at Indiana University can respond” (requires login)
- Select “Record Name”
- Select “Start Date”
- If you do not want to accept late submissions, select “End Date”
- Select from other available options as needed
- Distributing the form
- Go to the “Collect Responses” tab
- Choose “Copy Link”
- Send via the Faculty Center Class Roster "Notifiy Listed Students" option (see KB: How faculty can view class details and class rosters for details)
- Accessing submissions (where are they saved?)
- The files are stored in OneDrve.
- Go to OneDrive > My Files > Apps > Microsoft Forms > [Form Name] > [Text of Question]
Additional information is available on the Microsoft Support website.
Creating online assessments like quizzes, tests, or final exams
The process for creating an online assessment using Microsoft Forms is similar to the experience described above for uploading files, except you will select “New Quiz” instead of “New Form” at https://forms.microsoft.com. For more information, visit Create a Quiz with Microsoft Forms and scroll down to “Create a new quiz manually”.
For additional help, contact your local campus teaching and learning center.
